2015 was all about managing indoor air quality

2015 has been a busy year for us at Camfil. There has been a deluge of information in the national media regarding air pollution, air quality and indoor air quality. The UK is starting to ask questions about the health effects of indoor and outdoor pollution across industrial and commercial sectors. As always, we look back at some of the popular articles from 2015. If you are on Facebook, you might want to like our page and you can tell us what you think!

Guide to managing air quality within warehouse and logistics centres – We recently published a Guidance Document highlighting the need to effectively manage air quality in warehousing and distribution facilities. Download the Guidance Document here. The UK logistics industry is worth £74.45 billion to the UK economy and employs around 2.2 million people in over 196,000 companies. Dust and dirt problems are more the rule than the exception for warehousing and logistics facilities professionals. This guidance document helps readers determine the health effects of poor air quality within warehousing and distribution facilities, along with its causes and how it can be prevented.

FACTS on the health effects of air pollution

The way we live increases our exposure to air pollution:

  • We spend close to 90% of our lives indoors
  • Indoor air can be up to 50 times more polluted than outdoor.

Outdoor air pollution infiltrates into buildings. Without appropriate ventilation, it accumulates and can even react with other indoor air pollutants.

Indoor air pollution is made of outdoor air pollutants, including heating and traffic particles and gases that infiltrate into our buildings as well as chemicals emissions from building materials, DIY products, cleaning products, air fresheners, combustion particles from heating, cooking and candles, pets allergens, electronics and appliances.
